In the historic center of Athens, in Thiseio, our team was commissioned to design the all day café-bar-restaurant Chelona above Cava Nektar. 
The building in neoclassical style creates memories and atmospheres of an old Athens. The interior design reflecting this feeling with clear references to the past given with a modern look. 
The blue semi-circular ceiling with its façades is the dominant architectural element which, combined with the lighting, creates a dramatic, imposing yet calm atmosphere. The dominant materials are wood and marble-faced tiles in an orthogonal canvas pattern, which have references to the Athenian aesthetic.  In the walk in cellar and the cigar room, tiles with elaborate old-style patterns were chosen for the floor. The velvet fabrics and glossy marble-look table tops add a sense of luxury. The preparation room is open and is clad with arches and panels in the same colour as the ceiling, creating a sense of continuity and harmony. 
Moving from the interior to the exterior, the courtyard is found. A characteristic element of the old Athenian houses. The graffiti in contrast with the old-style tiles with their elaborate patterns and the green element create a space that relates to modern Athens that evolves over time keeping beloved elements from its past.
